Invite: Community Orchard Planting
Everyone is invited to assist with the planting of the Bradfield community orchard at Low Bradfield on Saturday 20th February. Meet at the entrance to the footpath/track opposite 'The Plough Inn' pub at 10.30am.
Please wear warm clothing and sturdy boots. All tools etc. will be provided.
The event is open to all and will also be publicised by the local media and both local schools.
The Bradfield orchard project has been driven by SCC Community Forestry and the Ranger Service in-conjunction with Bradfield in Bloom and Bradfield Parish Council.
Initially 15 fruit trees provided by community forestry were to make up the first phase of the community orchard. However following confirmation that a 'Bradfield in Bloom' bid to the Community Assembly for an additional 50 fruit trees was successful, the original plan for this season has grown four fold.
The selected fruit tree species for the orchard will include both heritage and modern varieties. A range of different fruit including apple, pear, plum, damson and cherry will be planted. This selection will provide a varied range of fruit that can be used by the community for cooking, pressing and eating.
For more information please contact Tim Shortland, Community Forestry Manager, on 0114 2734190 or Lynn Russell on 0114 285 1227.
We look forward to seeing you on the day.
