£10,000 National park photographic competition
Keen photographers are being given the chance to win a top prize of £10,000 for a picture showing the Peak District National Park’s landscape.
The Take A View competition includes the Landscape Photographer of the Year and Young Landscape Photographer of the Year awards for 2009.
In addition to winning cash prizes and a visit to a national park, leading entries from the awards will be displayed in a seven-week exhibition at the National Theatre in London and feature in an AA book.
The competitions are supported by the Peak District National Park Authority, other English national parks and Natural England as part of the celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the legislation that created National Parks, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, National Trails and National Nature Reserves.
Narendra Bajaria, chair of the Peak District National Park Authority, said: “The photographic awards are about celebrating the beauty of the British countryside and recording the way that people use that landscape in everyday life.
“This fits in nicely with the 60th anniversary events which celebrate our role in protecting and enhancing the Peak District National Park, while giving people opportunities to enjoy and learn more about what makes the area so special.
“So I hope residents and visitors to the national park will take the opportunity to record what they think makes the Peak District such a special place by entering the competition before the 15 July deadline.”
The Landscape Photographer of the Year and Young Landscape Photographer of the Year awards each have four main categories. Entrants in the Young Landscape Photographer’s categories must be aged 16 or under on 15 July.
The categories are:
- Classic view - an image that captures the beauty and variety of a UK landscape
- Living the view - a picture showing people working or playing in an outdoor UK landscape
- Your view - a category allowing people to show a more personal view of what the UK landscape means to them
- Phone view - an image of a UK landscape taken on a mobile phone camera
The overall winner of the Landscape Photographer of the Year Award will receive £10,000. Each adult category winner will get £1,000, with a £500 runner-up prize.
The winner of the Young Landscape Photographer of the Year Award will receive £1,000. They and each category winner will also win a place on a two-day photography workshop with renowned landscape photographer Charlie Waite.
Any photo taken in the Peak District National Park area can also be entered into a special category to win a two-night break in the national park of the winner’s choice with accommodation provided. The winners will be able to spend a day with a national park ranger.
